Here is the most complete list of recent cannibal attacks:
December 2011 (USA) - Tyree Lincoln Smith attacked a homeless man with a hammer so severely he was able to remove an eye from the man's head along with pieces of brain and a piece of skull. Smith put the body parts in a bag and took them to a nearby cemetery where he ate the eyeball (which he described as tasting like an oyster) and the brain matter. The mutilated remains were discovered by a property inspector in January 2012 and Smith was arrested in Florida 5 days later.
January 2012 (Germany) - Police who raided a Berlin flat found body parts wrapped in baking foil and paper. The body parts had been sawed, hacked and sliced. The head was bobbing in a pot on the cooker. The suspect, Michael Schneider, slashed his wrists as the police broke down the door but was recovering in hospital.
March 2012 (Serbia) - Serbian gangsters from the Zemun clan in Belgrade beat Milan Jurisic to death with a hammer, skinned and boned him and then put him through a meat grinder at a flat in Madrid. They made a facemask from his skin, cooked his flesh and ate him in a stew. Sretko Kalinic (nicknamed 'The Butcher') confessed to the crime after being arrested.
March 2012 (Russia) - During questioning regarding a accusations of theft Alexander Bychkov confessed that he had killed several people, eaten their livers and buried them in a gully behind his house. Police found six bodies with 'cannibalism' in most cases. They have begun looking into unexplained disappearances in the area between 2009 and 2011.
April 2012 (Brazil) - Three cannibals were arrested on suspicion of having murdered at least two women, eating parts of their bodies and using their flesh to make stuffed pastries known as empanadas which they sold to unwitting neighbours. They were part of a self founded cult called 'Cartel' whose aim was to reduce global population. They documented their grizzly adventures in a 50 page book called 'Revelations of a Schizophrenic'. They confessed to their crimes stating their goal was 3 women a year. Neighbours torched their house the day after they were arrested.
April 2012 (USA) - 79 year old Jiemieng Liu battered his 73 year old wife to death before chopping off her arm and eating it. The limb was gnawed to the bone and she had several missing fingers which he is also believed to have consumed. Their son returned from work to find his father with blood on his face sitting in a rocking chair next to the mutilated body chanting "this is not your mother". He was charged with murder but found to be suffering from dementia and died of natural causes in hospital.
April 2012 (Japan) - Illustrator Mao Sugiyama publicly seasoned and braised his own genitals on a portable gas burner and then served up the dish to willing participants (who each paid £160 for the privelege). Sugiyama had undergone elective genital removal surgery on his 22nd birthday. A crowd of 70 watched this grizzly feast. Police received many complaints but said they were unable to persue the matter because there is no law prohibiting cannibalism in Japan.
May 2012 (USA) - This is arguably the story that sparked the current media frenzy around so called Zombie attacks.Eugene Vega leapt naked upon homeless man Ronald Poppo and began consuming his face in broad daylight. Before police could intervene Mr Poppo had reportedly lost almost 90% of his face. Mr Vega was shot dead at the scene. Drugs were thought to have been involved. Mr Poppo is making a steady recovery.
May 2012 (Canada) - Luka Rocco Magnotta, a male stripper and low budget bisexual porn actor killed his boyfriend with an icepick and then cut his throat while he was tied to their bed. He then dismembered and decapitated him and began consuming the torso using a knife and fork (feeding some to his dog). He then masturbated with the man's body parts and anally penetrated the limbless corpse. We know this to be true as he video taped himself committing the whole atrocity and then uploaded it to a gore website under the title '1 Lunatic, 1 Ice Pick'. He then posted the various body parts to local political parties and schools and threw the torso out with the trash (stashed in a suitcase). When police finally caught up with him he had taken a trip to Berlin and was admiring photographs of his crime in a cybercafe.
May 2012 (China) - A man detained for the murder of a 19 year old man in late April confessed to a further 16 male teenagers who had gone missing from the village in recent years. He had previously served 20 years in jail for murder and was known locally as the "Cannibal Monster". Residents described plastic bags hung from his house with what appeared to be bones sticking out from the tops. Police discovered human eyeballs preserved inside wine bottles and pieces of human flesh hanging out to dry. Police believe he may also have fed human flesh to his three dogs and sold any surplus on the market, calling it "ostrich meat".
June 2012 (China) - Exactly one month after the "face eating" attacking in the USA Chinese bus driver 'Dong' tried to gnaw off a woman's face. Passers by failed to pull them apart but finally police arrived and arrested the crazed man (who had been drinking heavily). The woman will need plastic surgery to repair her nose and lips.
June 2012 (Sweden) - An associate professor at the Karolinska Institute who believed his young wife was having an affair cut off her lips and ate them. When questioned he showed no remorse believing she had wronged him. When asked why he had eaten the lips he simply answered that he did not want the doctors to be able to reattach them via surgery.
June 2012 (USA) - Kenyan student Alexander Kinyua murdered his housemate and ate his heart and part of his brain. He then hid the victims head and hands in tins around his family home, throwing the rest in a rubbish bin outside.
July 2012 (USA) - A woman out walking with her sister and four month old son in his pushchair were set upon by homeless woman Natasha Hubbard. She reached into the pushchair, grabbed the baby, swinging him overhead before slamming him into railing. She then tried to break off his arm in order to eat it (which she later confirmed in a police interview). The woman was able to grab her son back and Hubbard clawed her and ran away. Witnessed identified Hubbard, leading to her arrest.
